Optics and sensors

Was playing around with making some optics, sensors and various bits last night. Think it looks pretty sweet my self. Also stuffed a few openings in the fuselage, which of cause will be filed down later on.

The Beginning of....

So many different models and units just waiting to be made up - also just just got the Lady Death, but I really wanted to add something big - or at least bigger. So I dug out some bits and started building a Myrmidon Assault Engine, again one of those minis where the STC slowly has been showing itself in the back of my mind for some time. The plan was to add various sensors and optics to the front, to supply the encased pilot with images, sensory input and what not from the surroundings. Still very early WIP, but I always find it funny to share the building process right from the start.

PDC kickstarter nearing an end

The PDC kickstarter  LINK has just been updated with some sweet looking options for their weapons platform. Looking really promising - and just what my army needs..........now go pledge!

Murder Servitors finished

Done with these killing machines. Quite happy with the way they turned out - mean, unhealthy and ready to rip out some guts.
Kept being really hard to photograph for some reason, the skin tone just wouldn't show it self - but the final pictures here are quite right colorwise.

Lady Death

Thanks to Laurent from Blight Wheel miniatures I've gotten hold of their Salute Exclusive mini - The Lady Death. Thanks a lot, just what I needed. Got it in the mail yesterday - along with some other  really interesting stuff, and is that a cool mini or what? Really looking forward to painting this one. She will of cause be my assassin from the Cydonian Sisterhood  - can't wait to get that one the table, she is one evil bitch.

Creeping progress

As hobby time has been scarce over the last week, I've only managed to add a bit of spotcolor/green, paint some cables and touch up a few mistakes made earlier. So it's slowly getting there now.
I have kind of decided against painting either checkers or cogpatterns - doesn't really fit the miniatures I think. Some of the red areas are however quite large, I am counting on the battle damage to take care of that problem though but I might chance opinion on that subject later.

Red R3-DRUM

Finished off the reds yesterday - doesn't look a grimy and dark anymore, but I like the bright red and find it suiting for the AdMech. It will however change when I add battledamage and weathering, same as the previous ones.
Someone suggested to stay away from white/creamy colors  - cog pattern, and I think that is wise. I might add some checkers to the red areas though.

New hats for everyone

With the skin done I've touched up a few of the metal areas, and laid down the base of red. Of cause it's very flat, as I've not yet had the time to add any shading or highlights - but it does give a good image of how they will look finished.
I'm still planning on painting the eyes black, but I'm also toying with blue or green with OSL - or even filing the eyes off to make the faces even more expressionless.

Cure found?

I think not! Added a couple of highlights and worked some red and purple washed into the skin. Think it works well, looks really unhealthy, maimed, artificial.
Red armour parts will be next.
Still annoyingly difficult to photograph!

Serious skin disease spottet on LV-426

Rather unhealthy skincolor just as I wanted. Not quite there yet, but I guess one or two more layers will do the trick. The color is quite difficult to photograph under my normal tablelight, but I hope it will show up better once they are taken to the lightbox.

Very cool weapon-platform

I'm not the kind of person who usually take part in the myriad of Kickstarters out there, this one does however show some rather nice looking weapon platforms(together with some interesting weapons) and it's not insanely expensive. As I want those platforms I can only say go check it out. I'll stress that I have absolutely nothing to do with the project and I do not know anything about the guys running it.

Bonefused metal parts

Always a big thing when you actually get the first licks of paint on a model - kind of makes promises for the future, that it will actually be finished.
I was planning on adding both some bronze and some red to the helmet, but I'm not really sure how it will look, or what color to paint the lenses. Guess it's one of those things, you hope will solve it self as it comes along.

1 year of blogging

Today is the first day in the second year of The Forge, the birthday of my blog if you will. That went pretty fast! I had no idea how much interest it would gather, and I've been pretty surprised with the amount of people who think it's worthwhile to have a look at the stuff I make. More than 18000 views of people from 65 different countries around the world - I had no idea that anyone in Tanzania knew abut the Mechanicus.....
Thanks to all the people - you guys - who come around, and makes this a funny way to spend some time. Also a great thanks to all the blog-connections, without which I think most blogs would take years to get an audience - I know for sure mine really kicked off when got connected with Faeit 212, BoLS and Tale of Painters. Amazing to see how info can "spiderweb" around the world in no time. Here is also to hoping Nafka will get Faeit212 up and running again and the rumours of the blog's demise is just an overreaction.

Cheers and happy hobbying
