Vanguard almost there

Getting mighty close to finish here - just a few little bit needing tidying up. Pretty good idea of the end result here. Think it will look good in a squad.

Mechanicus skitarii ranger

Painting is still underway on the vanguard, but I did get a useful pic today. Instead here is the first of my rangers. Not much conversion work on this one - just the foolish looking tip of the barrel. I really like these minis so for once it doesn't bother me not to convert much. Painting style will be really ranger like - in a brownish kind of way.

Taking up the red a notch

After I decided that the reds were a go I worked a bit more on it last night. I actually think it came out pretty good, I might add red to the sensor casing too - as I need a "bigger" surface to freehand - those shoulder pads are just too small!
Metals are done - like the result there too. The last big decision is the color on the boots - black or brown. Not sure yet - guess I might have to finish all the rest and see what will work best with the model over all.

Red on a Mechanicus model - are you nuts!

I decided to go with my first idea and well the second one as well actually.....hence red was added to bot shoulderpads and helmet. Guess what! I really like it - I'm giving this the full go with shades, highlight, whipped cream and all.

Vanguard color test

Splashed the first few paints on one of the vanguards last night, trying to figure out how to actually paint it. Nothing is nowhere near done, but it gives a general idea of the direction it will take. I'm having a little trouble figuring our where to incorporate the red (greatcoat will be black), initially the plan was one or both shoulderpads - I am however not sure that's quite enough. Instead I have been considering the round part/top of the helmet, which I initially figured would be a steely metal. I kind of like the idea, as I think it will quite interesting and very different from the "standard" two metal setup.

Mechanicus Vanguard Alpha and groupshot.

With only a few minor adjustments, well only one really - an arm from Anvil Industry, the Alpha is now ready to lead the fight against enemies of the Deus ex Machina. Love the big sixshooter - is it the Samaritan?? and I think his stance is quite good too. Great minis these are for sure - good on you GW.

Cool new Mechanicus minis and rumours

I have recently found this modeller Grim Skull Miniatures, who sell their minis through Wargameexclusive.com. Though some of it is slightly naked!!!!! it's some really cool mechanicus stuff. One of the newest previews is this scantly clad techpriest - I wonder if even an enemy would be able to concentrate fully on the war-aspect of things.

Also really like their Alphas!

Also some quite interesting rumours via http://natfka.blogspot.dk A "new" AdMech Codex - or to be more precise a combination of the two former, with added bits. None the less - great news I think.

"New admech book. Basically the two seperate codexes rolled into the big book with some new additions. The new additions are basically just leftovers from the last release that never got put into production. There was concept work done on two more types of battle robots and a new flyer of some sorts. That Enginseer from the Leman Russ bundle should also be getting a seperate release".

Mechanicus Vanguard

Finally a real post, finally a bit of cutting and gluing little plastics.
As you might have seen earlier I have been through several designs for my basic infantry - the hypaspists. I had settled on a design I likes quite a lot, though rather expansive as it meant bying several kits for each 10 man squads, however I really liked it. Then GW released the Vanguard/Ranger box...............I was sold. Good  good stuff in my book, IMO GW really hit a home run there. Of cause, some slight adjustments was needed, mainly because I did not like the idea of the rangers and vanguard looking so similar. Hence I decided the robes had to go - they are more fitting as camocloaks for a ranger as I see it. Luckily Victoria Miniatures had just released a set of greatcoat legs which would fit perfectly. A bit of guitarwire and we are done - easy and efficient conversion I think.

Hitting the webway

Been way too long since I posted anything here - honestly I haven't had any desire to glue plastic together. However it was recently my birthday, and a Dunecrawler and some Battle servitors came in the door. Slowly the hobby bug has been creeping back and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to post something with a bit of plastic soon.
To further complicate things I have, also recently, joined Facebook - and I have therefore decided to open an Forge Mechanicus FB page as well - further commitment hopefully keeping me at it.

Until further post, scoot over there and have a look. LINK: FM - FB
